By now you should have received your property assessment notice from MPAC (Municipal Property Assessment Corporation). Most Matinenda property assessments have increased by about 40% to be phased in over 4 years … about 10% per year. The total municipal assessment for the Town of Blind River has also increased by this amount. So what does this mean for your tax bill next year? There is good information about this at the website www.wraft.com. The FAQ section should answer most of your questions. While you are there, please sign the petition for revision of the assessment system.

Jerry: Yes Council is aware of the new assessments and will be reviewing them in the new year to see what effect it would have on the tax rates. Also, MPAC will be having an open house type forum where property owners can make inquiries regarding their individual assessments. This is being scheduled for sometime in early Jan. and I will get the date to you once MPAC gets back to us. Thanks. Ken c.

Subject: assessments
Hi Ken :
I am getting tons of questions about the effects of the assessment increases on Matinenda tax bills.
We noticed that most properties on Matinenda have increased by 40% but that the Town as a whole has also increased by 40% over the 4 year period.
Has Mayor and Council prepared any kind of statement about the anticipated effect of this on future tax bills?
If you could send me the information, I would put it on our website to inform Matinenda taxpayers.
Thanks in advance
